World-renowned Simola Golf and Country Estate situated to the north of Knysna borders on the Knysna Forest and the Knysna River. The estate consists of about 380 residential opportunities as well as the 5-star Simola Hotel Country Club and Spa, an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, and the River Club.
Planning for the establishment of a golf estate at Simola began in the early 90s. The Knysna Town Council of the time granted the first rezoning in respect of the envisaged project in 1991. Unfortunately the land lay dormant for years to follow. When the current owner purchased the property in 2006, the former VPM Planning CC was appointed to proceed with Phase 2 of the development. Lizemarie Botha was responsible for the design of the master plan of the estate as well as obtaining the required statutory approvals.
Additional portions of land have been incorporated to facilitate further phases of development over the years and VPM continued to provide planning services to the estate. The latest phases include the development of two group housing sites within the development, which were submitted for approval in 2020 and 2021.
