Situated on the cliffs along the dramatic shoreline between Knysna and Noetzie lies the splendid Pezula Private Estate (PPE). It consists of 612 hectares and has nearly four kilometres of coastline.
The property was used for commercial forestry for more than 70 years before it was bought by a private developer. The former VPM Planning CC lead the project team through the planning process and the development approval was obtained in 2003. The developers’ vision was driven by environmental considerations. Only 255 large erven were identified, leaving more than 500ha of the property available for rehabilitation.
PPE launched a massive rehabilitation program to restore the land to its original pristine state. The huge success of this conservation outcome has been internationally recognized with several prestigious awards. Pezula Private Estate has been named as one of the Most Environmentally Aware and Best Luxury Developments in the World.
Lizemarie Botha was the town planner responsible for the conceptualising and master planning of the estate and is still involved in addressing minor amendments such as consolidations, densifications and general consultation services to the estate management and individual owners.
