This property is situated in the informal township area to the northeast of the Knysna CBD. Approximately 150 families resided on the site in informal structures with no services. Their living conditions were unacceptable and created a health risk to the residents and the surrounding areas.
Knysna Municipality obtained funding to improve the level of service provision to this area. VPM Planning CC was tasked to prepare a layout that will accommodate all the residents and to obtain all the statutory approvals to ensure eventual ownership for individual beneficiaries. Final approvals were secured by 2019 and today the development is an example of the positive public effect of innovative urban planning and design.
